Natural elements such as fire, water, air, the weight of rock; acting as triggers for my paintings. Natural elements translate into metaphors of my own internal state.
The balance of an image is concerned with shapes relating to each other; interlocking and interweaving. Relationships of forms is reached through intensity of colour, setting up a dialogue, giving such shapes and forms a space of their own.
Shapes, structures, formations, gullies, gorges, fascinate me. They stimulate an emotional, intuitive response visualised through paint.
Initially I work directly from nature, taking photographs, pencil sketches, making watercolor studies.
