Leon Chmielewski lives and maintains his studio in Westport, Connecticut. Now retired from teaching, he was chairman of the Art Department at Westhill High School in Stamford Ct. for twenty-five years. He is now Adjunct Professor in the Art Department at Norwalk Community Technical College in Norwalk, CT.
Critics have called Chmielewski an intellectual colorist. Indeed, his large paintings represent his impressions of the countryside and seashore. Chmielewski has a degree in Art Education, a masters in Painting and has studied with Sonia Getchoff, Richard Pousette-Dart, and Regis Brodie.
Leon Chmielewski has had numerous one-man exhibitions. His work is represented in private collections in the United States, Iceland, Sweden, and in corporate collections including IBM and Apple Computer. Chmielewski has received two Painting fellowships from Skidmore College. Since 1985 he has returned to the Saratoga Springs, New York area every summer to paint and and draw inspiration from the the beautiful Adirondacks.
